Research and Planning - Genre Post

 Horror - Zombie
Usually in a horror movie such as Dawn Of The Dead, they include a lot of special effects that add greater interest for the audience.  These will include stuff like gruesome blood, special costumes/masks that make the characters look more believable and 'unrealistic', but in a horrific way that's to scare the audience.  Depending on what type of horror it is, Zombie movies usually have a bright light, like when during outside the brightness will be highlighted, then in dark areas when an action scene comes out, lighting will be dimmed and non-diagetic sound is emphasised to increase intensity.  Depending on the horror type, the stories are usually about something bad happening in the beginning and then the rest is the result of this (where lots of action can be included).

Comedy
This genre is widely family based but can still be focused onto specific audiences.  Genuinely speaking comedys have a story that's the 'unusual' and something that can have humour related around it, and nothing too serious - they're also quite wacky.  Ace Ventura is a good example as it's quite unusual where the whole story is unusual, the clothing and personality of the character is distinct and is genuinely aimed to make the audience laugh.   Lighting is just the same as any normal other movie, as well as sound - it's mainly the story and the Actors that make it comedy genre.

Animation
A family based genre (pg/u) that appeals to all ages as they're usually enjoyed by most.  Animation brings in a 'fantasy' feel, something realistic within the story which is why it's appealing.  Monsters Inc is a good example as it's about actual made up 'monsters', but features comedy too.  Due to it being animation, a lot of effects is needed to build up this movie in the beginning, and is also the reason as to why it looks so appealing as it's not 'realistic' actors featuring. You can fit other genres within animation too, like Corpse Bride being a more darker film compared to this one, hence why a lot like this.

Romance
A genre that appeals to females of certain ages.  The stories are predictable, about love and a flirty romance.  They're the subtle movies compared to action etc, that's preferred by males. Lighting is dimmed in certain scenes of a romantic movie, to set that type of mood and also the sounds used aren't upbeat or emphasised like an action movie.  High quality graphics aren't needed for this genre usually because no special costume/animation is needed.
