Dear Moderator!

Welcome to my A2 Media Studies blog that contains all of my work I've done which I started September 2012. A lot of effort has gone into this with my working partner so I hope you enjoy it!

Research and Planning - Update of Film Mag

I've trimmed the white edging around Chelsea by using the eraser tool and also used the brush tool on her hair to create a darker colour as the cropping of hair is quite tricky. Also adjusted the brightness and contrast so it stands our more and I'm yet to place her head over the titles and photoshop some of her make-up. More improvements throughout working progress to come :)

Research and Planning - Audience feedback on trailer etc

some of our feedback for our posters, trailers and magazines, we're going to improve on what our audience states :)

Research and Planning - Poster update

Another photo that I took for media has finally been cropped into my magazine! I'm yet to crop her head and place it over the title etc and also edit it so there's no outlining.  I'm probably going to place a washed out zombie face in the background, where Chelsea is placed over the nose area and the eyes are at either side of her, but I'm still needing a zombie photo - so I'll get that sorted soon.

A long-shot seemed more appropriate for a poster, as it's quite capturing with her stance.

Research and Planning - Magazine update

I've finally got the pictures that I want for my magazine, so I've cropped them out and now editing Chelseas photo, however I'm not quite sure what I want in the background, or what else I could do to make the magazine look more 'full'. I'll find something soon.

I chose to do a medium close up for the magazine as this way you can get a better image of her facial expression and also see the weapon up close, so it brings a more 'zoomed' in image to the magazine which will make it look attractive.

Research and Planning - Photos for Magazine/Poster

We took some photos for our film/poster when we had time, we're not quite sure if we're to use them but they're handy!

Research and Planning - Magazine pick-outs

I've picked out some parts featured on some film magazines that I like the idea of and may try to create.  I love the whole texture and effect of this masthead, a shattering effect to show action and give a sense of feel to the movie.  It also looks 3D, which is better than just a bold font.
I love the colours of this magazine, and this is probably the colours I intend to feature on my poster, like a washed out blue effect as it shows darkness, dull and mysterious - kind of like the previous posters I've analysed before (The Underworld). It would really fit into my sci-fi feature.
I also loved how they created a banner through 'shot holes'.  It gives the magazine a unique look and also provides a sense of genre of what the magazine may contain and what the main movie is.  It's something different than just a plain banner, but simply the best idea I've seen.  This may be recreatable, we shall seee.
The cover lines slanting into the protagonist of the movie definitely looks brilliant.  I think this is the feature I may re-create the most as it makes him stand out and look the magazine look edgy.  It's going to depend on what my background will be.
I like the shot type of this picture, as it's intimidating to the viewer, again providing a sense of genre etc.

Research and Planning - Mine&Chelseas podcast

So me and Chelsea thought it'd be ideal to make a podcast on what we're up to and what we've done so far, and what we aim to do.  We briefly tell you our plans for the future and when we plan to film the rest :)

Research and Planning - Sound trailer

I've chosen a game trailer to look at the sound effects, yes I'm aware I'm doing a movie trailer but considering I'm only looking at the effects, this suites perfectly as if the game was converted into a movie, I'm sure it'd be classed as a sci-fi action horror.

The beginning sounds suites perfectly as it's like a constant pulse of energy, creation tension as it picks up pace.  This suites perfectly as you know something's going to happen and probably action is going to outburst.  The crumbling noises of rock look like they could be just re-created through pebbles being rolled along other pebbles and rocks. There's a wide use of stings used within the movie like when he steps hard on the floor or opens doors etc. The sword attacks sound like they could be recreated by chains hitting against each other as the trailer also features a chain as a weapon. The sword scraping across his wielder on his back could be recreated through swords scraping against each other (or a knife and spatula like pictures previously show :> ). The part where Dante punches the guys head against the table could also be created through dropping a hard fruit on the table which would give it this effect.  It would then be enhanced.

Research and Planning - Messing around with sounds

We had a mess around with some sounds today, by placing water in different shapes and sizes of wine glasses, then running a wet finger around the edge of the glass to create a spooky, haunting noise.  These may not suite my trailer as our's is more action-packed and doesn't have a mild soundtrack that loads of effects can be added too.  We were just experimenting with what we could do in the future if we ever wanted to :)

We also used a spatula and a knife clinking together to create a  clinking affect that could be used during a sword clash fight or something.  You could also scrape it or smack them blunt to create different tones and pitches, depending on the speed you 'scraped'.  This could also be edited to suite the needs of the trailer, however I don't think I'll be using these sound effects as the effects needed in mine are 'flesh attack' ones, and I intend to use a knife stabbing a fruit to create that in future. ^-^
Lastly we used a polythene bag that was srunched up to create a fire burning effect once we started 'ruffling it together.  It could also be used in a certain technique to create a snow crunching effect or a spitting effect from an animal.  So far no fire is within our trailer so we may not use this technique.

Research and Planning - Re-arranging Mag

I've re-arranged my magazine colours because I felt a white background was obviously tooooooooooo pale for a magazine of which the genre is for action etc. I've also moved the title so it's one line so I can get a bigger picture in there, shall hopefully look good!

Research and Planning - Development in post-production

As I take control over sound, I use Imovie to edit in the soundtracks that I've found off youtube, downloaded and then used them through Itunes on this programme.  I've found it simple to use to be honest, it's only annoying having to find the right area of the clip and trim it down so it fits into it.

Research and Planning - Sound effect start

I've added some more effects as sooooon as I got back from college just to make sure that if anything video clip wise needs rearranging then I'll have time to arrange the sound effects.
